“Good Night, Ocean View” Night Photography Collection

I really believe there are things nobody would see if I didn't photograph them.
—Diane Arbus (U.S. photographer, 1923-1971)

I live in an area of Berkeley, California, called Ocean View, a community established before the University arrived. It now includes a foundry, factories, and stores. Like many, I drove past these potential subjects without a thought. They were just shapes in my peripheral vision, vague landmarks on my journeys home.

But I want to reveal the beauty that surrounds us, so I stopped to look. I found beauty here, even in industrial sites. The strong lines and unusual shapes drew my eye, and the purpose and history of these structures add to the mystery.
